Ensign Peak Red Sable Black Mixed Clay Shot Glass

This piece is a small cylindrical shot glass measuring 1.58 x 2.125 x 1.58 inches. Crafted from a combination of Sable Black cone 10 clay and native clay from Ensign Peak in the Salt Lake area, the artwork features a striking two-tone finish. The lower portion showcases a matte, rough texture reminiscent of stone or sand, while the upper section transitions into a glossy, glittery black finish. This juxtaposition of textures and visual effects creates a visually compelling and tactile experience.

The shot glass was glazed with Cosmic Tea Dust, a glaze known for its compatibility with black clay bodies. This experimentation with different clay types aimed to test the influence of Ensign Peak clay on firing temperatures. The result is a unique and aesthetically pleasing object that balances rough and smooth textures, matte and glossy surfaces, and earthy and cosmic vibes.
